A detailed masterplan that establishes a clear vision for the future of Western Harbour in Leith, a new urban quarter along the Firth of Forth. Previously Edinburgh’s main port, the extensive dock area is now largely redundant and dislocated from the historic city. The design reconnects the site to the city, regenerating the sixty-nine acre area of reclaimed land as an attractive and sustainable urban quarter. The masterplan is designed according to the principles of Traditional Urbanism, with building groups of mixed scale and use and interconnected character areas that relate to architecture of the locality. Urban spaces are well defined and enclosed, located within a varied network of safe streets and passageways.
