Wellesley in Aldershot has been awarded the Planning Permission of the Year Award
The new development at Wellesley in Aldershot has been awarded the Planning Permission of the Year Award at the inaugural Planning Awards 2014, by Planning Magazine. The awards are given for outstanding achievement in planning.
Master Planner Robert Adam said: “We are delighted that this pioneering master plan has been recognised with these new awards. As with all master plans there are many participants and a wide range of input. The key is to maintain a sense of vision through this process that will come through as the distinctive character of the place. We were fortunate at Wellesley to have the surviving military heritage. This had to be turned from a mixed collection of historic buildings and a low-density layout to a sustainable, high density new district that would be an attractive place for the new residents while adding to the character of the town. In order to protect this vision, we have prepared comprehensive design codes with the cooperation of the local authority, these are the latest development in the emerging discipline of development codes.”
The award was entered by developer, Grainger plc, and the professional team included planning consultant, Savills; landscape architect, Capita Symonds; ecology consultant, Terence O’Rouke Ltd; highways, WSP; community consultant, Thinking Place; and project management, R&M Regeneration Management.
