Masterplanning

ADAM Urbanism’s approach to masterplanning, urban design and commercial housing is to improve the public realm by creating beautiful, distinctive and enduring places, rooted to the established character of the surrounding region, where people want to live, work and visit.

This approach also makes good financial sense for landowners and developers: research has shown that traditional housing that reflects local character can improve commercial values by 5-10% on a like for like basis. Through its broad range of work, the practice has developed a unique blend of skills and experience, and we enjoy sharing this with our clients and other consultants as we work collaboratively to develop practical, sensitive, intelligent and cost-effective designs that are properly rooted in their sites.

Masterplanning

ADAM Urbanism has developed a very significant body of residential development work at a wide variety of scales, from small infill sites, to large urban extensions and new settlements. With over 40 years of practical experience in commercial housing and traditional architecture, ADAM Urbanism brings to each project an in-depth understanding of the commercial realities of development, and the latest thinking in residential and urban design.

The practice has experience of a wide variety of approaches to development, working with landowners, developers, and a broad range of consultants. For some projects full stylistic control is required; for others, the coherence of the public realm can be regulated with broad measures of control, but the style of individual buildings can be more relaxed.

Our varied experience with commercial development and masterplanning includes acting as a principal masterplanner and architect for a scheme; acting as a design architect; acting as a coordinating architect, and writing and administrating design codes.

We will tune our service to the needs of a particular project, and we recognise the crucial importance of constructive team work for all projects. Our projects are at a variety of stages: completed; under construction; planning proposal, and early design concept. They are spread throughout the United Kingdom.

Masterplanning

Our latest publication ‘Making Better Places’ showcases our experience of housebuilding and masterplanning. The 20 examples illustrated in this book, ranging in size from small infill sites to a large new town, show how choosing a different kind of development can lead to the provision of more homes in a shorter time, creating places that will not only address the country’s urgent housing needs, but enrich people’s lives. These are places to call home. For more details on the book click here
